What is the Tokyo Pride Parade 2025?
The Tokyo Pride Parade 2025 is part of a global movement that has been advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility for over 50 years. Japan’s first Pride Parade took place in 1994, and participation has grown ever since, with 15,000 people marching in 2024!
In 2025, the Tokyo Pride Parade will be held on Sunday, June 8, under the theme “Same Life, Same Rights.”
** Applications for Parade Booths: Currently Closed
** General participant registration – see below for more details on this website and on our official social media.

How to Enjoy Pride Parade
The Parade rules
Tokyo Pride 2025 is an event that aims to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ and other sexual minorities in society and celebrate diversity in gender and lifestyle. We request that all expressions and content during the parade align with the event’s purpose.
Please refrain from expressions that contradict the parade’s purpose, such as messages that slander or defame specific individuals or groups, or promote prejudice or discrimination.
For the purpose of registration to authorities and police, this parade is legally considered a public protest or street demonstration. Large-scale commercial advertising activities by companies during the parade are not permitted.
Parade Registration
Registration will close once the maximum number of participants is reached. Please be aware that some groups may stop accepting applications on the first day of the event (June 7th), which is the day before the parade. In this case, you may be guided to another group with extra capacity.
Please pick up your wristband. Note that we can not provide one person with more than one wristband. Each individual needs to pick up their wristband in person.
Registration is required for participants who are elementary school students or older. Preschool children do not need to register.
If you lose it after receiving it, you will be asked to re-register.
Those who have pre-registered through participating organizations will not receive wristbands at the dedicated Pride Parade Reception Booths on June 7th (Sat) and June 8th (Sun). Please follow the instructions of your organization to receive your wristbands.
Companies are not permitted to gather as a group and walk in the parade. Displaying company logos is also prohibited, with exceptions for LGBTQ+ related non-profit organizations and companies that have applied for participation in advance among TRP 2025 sponsor companies (Silver Plan or above).
Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome to participate. In addition to strollers and wheelchairs, people who have difficulty going up and down stairs and people with physical disabilities will be provided with a separate assembly/waiting area. Please ask the staff at the registration desk.
Service dogs and pets are permitted to participate. Due to the traffic flow between the assembly and departure, a separate assembly/waiting area will be provided. Please ask the staff at the registration desk.
Assembly, Departure, and Return
Assembly times are different for each group and will be announced at the time of registration.
To reduce overcrowding, line ups will not be allowed before the assembly time.
Please make sure to wear the wristband on your wrist while marching in the parade.
Please use the restroom in advance.
Please drink plenty of water and take precautions to prevent heat stroke while waiting. Drinks allowed while waiting for the parade are limited to those in plastic bottles with lids. Please use the festival ground’s Eco Stations, or carry your trash with you until you get back to the festival grounds. Smoking is prohibited while waiting for the parade and during the parade. Otherwise, please smoke in the designated smoking areas.
Departure times may vary depending on road conditions on the day of the event and orders from the police department.
Please follow the instructions of our staff members.
During the Parade
Please note that, according to the nation’s Public Meeting Law, Japanese police are required to limit our parade to one corner of the road. This means that cars will be passing very close to the marchers. Please ensure that you follow all security measures including keeping rows of five people, and take extra care to keep any children safe from potential danger. Please ensure that you do not step out of your lane while walking.
Inter-group movement and joining the parade from the sidelines are strictly prohibited. While exiting the parade midway is permissible, re-entry is not allowed.
If you do not wish to be photographed or filmed during the parade, please take measures to conceal your identity, such as wearing hats, masks or sunglasses.
Police officers and staff will be stationed on the parade course. Please follow their instructions promptly. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask a nearby staff member.
In the event of rain, the use of umbrellas is dangerous and wearing a rainboat or poncho is recommended.
Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome. Please note that there are a few hills on the parade course.
Pets are welcome to join the parade, but it is the responsibility of their owners to ensure that they are either carried or kept on a leash to prevent them from disturbing others or running into traffic.
Drinking alcohol and smoking are strictly prohibited.
Photography during the parade
No large equipment such as professional cameras or tripods are allowed.
When taking photos while walking in the parade, please take photos from your position in the parade line. It is prohibited to move way from the parade line.
Please be responsible for your own safety and consider your surroundings while shooting.
If you wish to capture the entire parade or multiple groups, please do so from the sidelines.
If you plan to publish photos or videos on blogs, social media, or other platforms, exercise discretion and assume responsibility for their distribution.
In the event that any participant is found to have violated the others’ privacy, portrait rights, or copyrights by photoshooting other participants, passersby, or facilities along the route, our organization will not be held responsible for any consequences.
If any of the above precautions regarding photography are not followed, the photographer will be banned from taking photographs on the spot.
Our organization will not be responsible for any damage or malfunctioning of the equipment you bring to the event.
Additional information
Please take care of your personal belongings and valuables. Our organization cannot be held responsible for theft or loss.
When selecting your attire, keep in mind that you will be marching downtown during the day. Choose clothing that expresses your individuality while remaining suitable for the occasion.
Please avoid outfits that disrupt the five-in-a-row formation, such as giant inflatable costumes or oversized decorations.
Refrain from wearing excessively revealing clothing, including items that expose private areas or undergarments.
Do not bring dangerous items that could harm other participants.
Please take all trash with you and avoid littering during the parade.
The parade will proceed as scheduled, regardless of weather conditions, unless conditions are inclement and pose a risk to parade participants. Unforeseen circumstances such as earthquakes or outbreaks of transmissible diseases may also require changes or cancellations. We appreciate your understanding.
Japan is widely considered a safe country. If you are only visiting you will find hotels and restaurants generally accepting as long as courtesy and their establishment rules are respected. That said and despite this reputation, members of the LGBTQ+ community often face prejudice and unequal treatment in their personal lives. While Japanese society is generally law-abiding and violence is rare, barriers persist for LGBTQ+ individuals in various aspects of work and daily life.
In terms of law enforcement, the police are known for their strict adherence to the law, regardless of one’s nationality or sexual orientation. It’s crucial to carry official identification, such as a passport or residence card, as Japanese police may request it at any time. Failure to provide identification could lead to trouble. It’s essential for all travelers to respect Japanese laws and refrain from bringing or using illegal substances. This includes drugs that may be legal in other countries, including certain prescription medications. Prior research on Japanese laws and regulations is highly recommended before traveling, especially if you intend to bring in any medication.
In case of legal issues, travelers are advised to contact their embassy for assistance, as Tokyo Rainbow Pride cannot offer legal or judicial support to visitors.
